Yesterday we met Billy Bessinger, bar manager at RnR in Scottsdale. Today he shares with us the recipe for the Berry Hot Mess, a gin-based cocktail made with blackberries and jalapeno for a sweet, zesty experience.
"You can taste the heat, but it's not a spicy drink," Bessinger says. "It's good for me because I've got the allergies going right now, but it clears me right up. It's a refreshing, light cocktail that just wakes you up, and it's not overpowering. It's actually one of our owner's favorite cocktails, and it'll be on our new cocktail menu that premiers at the end of April."

The ingredients:
5 Jalapenos, thinly sliced
7 Blackberries
2 ounces Beefeater 24 gin
1 ounce Gran gala orange liqueur
½ ounce Simple syrup
½ ounce Fresh lime juice
How to make it:
Slice the jalapenos very thinly -- almost thin enough to where you can see through them -- but keep the seeds, because the seeds impart the heat. Muddle the peppers with the blackberries and simple syrup in a pint glass. Inside an ice-filled shaker, mix gin, orange liqueur and lime juice. Add the contents of the glass to the shaker, stirring well. Strain into a martini glass and garnish with jalapeno and blueberry, if desired. Enjoy.
