Number 18: Morning Glory Benedict at Morning Glory Cafe
Going out for breakfast on the weekend is one of life’s little treats, and it’s bonus to do it at Morning Glory Cafe. When the weather’s just right and I need a bit of an escape, all it takes is a trip to the Farm at South Mountain to revive my spirits with good food, strong coffee, and a surprisingly bucolic atmosphere for a restaurant within the city limits.
As much as I like the omelets here, it’s hard to resist the Morning Glory Benedict, which puts pretty much everyone else’s eggs benedict dishes to shame.
It’s nothing fancy, really — good ingredients and the right preparation are what set it apart. Perky, velvety Hollendaise sauce is spooned over oozy poached eggs from Hickman’s Family Farms, ham, braised farm greens.and an English muffin, amounting to a sublimely comforting start to the day.
We’re on the verge of about eight solid months of decent al fresco dining weather, so I expect to be eating this pretty often.
