The idea that “everyone wants to be famous” is so deeply ingrained in American culture that the very thought of someone walking away from fame seems perverse. And yet that's exactly what Dave Chappelle did in 2005, walking away from his wildly successful and critically acclaimed Chappelle's Show. It's a move that turned the man into the legend, and left us wondering if he'd ever step back into the spotlight again.
Fast forward to 2017, and Chappelle is back in a major way.
After delivering a blistering monologue as the first Saturday Night Live guest host after Trump's election in 2016 to dropping two hours of new stand-up material on Netflix this year (The Age of Spin and Deep in the Heart of Texas), he's come to reclaim the throne he abdicated for over a decade.
And soon you'll get a chance to see the master at work, Phoenix.
Dave Chappelle is coming back to do a night of stand-up on Saturday, September 2, at Comerica Theatre.
For comedy fans, it's a can't-miss event. And considering that he has a third Netflix special on the way, there's a good chance we'll be hearing some of it in downtown Phoenix this fall.
Tickets go on sale on Friday, June 9, at 10 a.m. through Live Nation.
