Premium Rush Alleycat at Tempe Beach Park David Koepp's Premium Rush pedals into theaters this weekend. The bike messenger thriller stars Joseph Gordon-Levitt as a delivery dude who gets mixed up in a big ole mess of Manhattan traffic, dramatic phone calls from concerned biking pals, and Michael Shannon as a scary crooked cop who implies he'll murder J. Go-Le (totally good nickname, right?) and maybe his family, too.
State Bicycle Co. will put its own spin on the new release Friday when it hosts the Premium Rush Alleycat, which organizers say will be "fixie as fuggghhhh."
Ride. Like. Hell. on Friday at 7:30 p.m. at Tempe Beach Park. Note: There probably won't be any bad guys chasing you (sorry). Movie tickets will be arranged with race entry.
New Times Back to School Pub Crawl @ Tempe Marketplace Despite Arizona State's recently floundering in party school rankings (What in the hell are you students so busy doing? Studying?!), there's plenty of back-to-school mayhem happening across the Valley this weekend. And New Times is getting in on the rager action, too, by hosting a bash on Friday at Tempe Marketplace.
So, put down those textbooks and put on your drinking game face. It's time for a pub crawl. Drinking starts at Thirsty Lion Pub & Grill at 8 p.m., and continues around the mall at Cadillac Ranch, Kabuki, San Felipe's Cantina, and Dave & Buster's. Tickets to the pub crawl are $10 in advance and $15 the day of the event. Modéle Ruse @ The Monarch Theatre Nowhere is androgyny more embraced than in the world of fashion. Models like Agyness Deyn and Freja Beha and their boyish, lanky bodies and strong brows have gained notoriety as the faces of Armani and Chanel, respectively.
While the models walking at Modéle Ruse haven't starred in any similarly massive campaigns (yet), their looks will echo those of Deyn and Beha as the show's theme is glam androgyny. Clothing, styled by Jessica Hunter, from designers Kelly Calabrese, Amir Saebe, and boutique Nostra Style House will accompany hairstyles from Peoria salon Gemini of Chicago, whose owner, Lisa Kiorkis, organized the show with Fashion-Faces Magazine's Jesca Alfano.
"I want to portray an idea of confidence and strength without attaching a gender role to it," Kiorkis says of the show, which will also feature artwork from Heather Tipton, Rosa "Monstro" Flores, and more.
The show starts at 8 p.m. on Saturday at The Monarch. Admission is $10.
The White Party @ The Saguaro After Sunday's second annual Divine Nine Rewind Step & Stroll Show featuring graduate frats and sororities at Phoenix College's Bulpitt Auditorium wraps up, the Greek get-together will move to the pool at The Saguaro.
Make a splash from 6:30 to 10 p.m. Tickets are $10 in advance and $15 at the door. Discounted rooms will be available for attendees.
Planter Making Workshop @ Practical Art On Sunday at Practical Art, Ray DelMuro of Refresh Glass, a local company that repurposes used wine bottles and makes them into drinking glasses, will reveal the company's latest offering: planters. DelMuro will also lead a workshop teaching attendees how to make their own planters from emptied bottles.
The workshop takes place from 3 to 5 p.m. Participation is $15 and all supplies are included. Space is limited. RSVP by calling 602-264-1414.
