After nearly two years of operation, Squash Blossom, the breakfast and lunch spot located at 705 North First Street, has closed its doors for good.

According to a post on Facebook last Friday, the restaurant shuttered as of Saturday, March 15. The restaurant had been closed the week of March 9 for "spring break."

Owners Brian and Carrie Lester opened the restaurant in the former PastaBar space in June 2012. The couple had been in the catering business for years prior to opening the restaurant and said at that time that they were hoping to focus on lunch and breakfast dining.

But the news of Squash Blossom's closure might not come as a surprise to those who know the location historically has been difficult for restaurants. The last tenant in that space, PastaBar, also failed to make it to the two-year mark despite former Sassi chef Wade Moises' authentic freshly made pastas and rustic Italian fare.
