Board to Death

Listing Monopoly and mahjong among your favorite tabletop games while at next February’s Vul-Con would be a death sentence for a gaming noob. Seriously, you might as well paint a target on your head and wait for the assault of Warhammer miniatures.

Avoid the RISK while bolstering your gaming prowess at Vul-Con Arena III at Samurai Comics, 1051 East Camelback Road. The mini-con will feature Heroclix, Settlers of Catan, and other popular tabletop games, along with Flying Frog’s new pulp adventures game and Russian export Evolution: The Origin of Species.

Luckily, you don’t have to develop gaming strategies in your sleep to hold your own at Samurai’s event. “This is a great opportunity for the entire family to come in and have fun learning new games,” says owner Michael Banks. “We recently introduced our 8-year-old to the Steve Jackson card game Munchkin and he loves it.” Of course, if you get your ass handed to you by an elementary schooler, you might still need to duck and cover.
