Ballet often comes off more stuffy than captivating, with mental images of crankily prancing, poorly fed girls overshadowing the verve and artistic innovation of dancers like Mikhail Baryshnikov and Twyla Tharp. And, honestly, re-watching the final season of Sex and the City solely for Baryshnikov’s international tryst with Sarah Jessica Parker’s Carrie Bradshaw could beat out sitting through a dance performance most nights of the week.

But that won’t be the case when the Moscow Ballet performs its famed Great Russian Nutcracker. More than 30 of the company’s Eastern Euro danseuses will perform the classic holiday story in lavish colorful costumes accompanied by Tchaikovsky’s original score.
