49. Footlong at Ted’s Hot Dogs

Ted’s Hot Dogs is one of the best places in town to get your hot dog fix — and we’re not talking about fancy-schmancy, all-beef concotions (though, to be fair they do have an all-beef dog). No, we’re talking about skin-on dogs shipped straight from New York that are grilled over a live charcoal fire. And if that’s not all-American, then we don’t know what is.

At Ted’s you’ll step up to the counter, order your hot dog — choosing from options including a regular dog, a footlong, a White Hot, or a Polish sausage — and then watch as the grillmasters throw it on flame and commence the cooking. The poke each link, prod it, and generally knock it around until the outside is blistered and crisp. Then you get to pick your toppings from a spread that includes ketchup, mustard, relish, pickles, onions, and hot sauce. The last option is not to be missed; it’s like spicy ketchup with a respectable kick.

Editor's Picks

I Can take down a footlong hot dog at Ted’s no problem and still have room for a side of onion rings. Made fresh in-house everyday, they’re kind of a classic, along with the restaurant’s Loganberry soda and milkshakes.
