Don't know if you've noticed, but some very exciting things have been happening in the world lately — the second royal baby was born, Morgan Freeman is pushing for the legalization of marijuana, and the general public has opened a conversation about transgender people. And, hey, we've got three more exciting things for you that just happen to be free. You're welcome. Check your calendar, and prepare to listen in to an award-winning artist speak, get an interactive Phoenix history lesson, and shop some of the city's coolest stores this week. 


Artist Lecture: Rachel Bess

Come hear the Arlene and Morton Scult Contemporary Forum 2014 Artist Award winner, Rachel Bess, speak on Wednesday, May 13, at 7 p.m. at the Phoenix Art Museum, 1625 North Central Avenue. Bess was chosen for her high degree of excellence and commitment to contemporary art over her career as an artist working in Arizona. The award ceremony is a part of the museum's Free Admission Wednesday evening, so feel free to explore the museum before or after the talk. For more information, visit phxart.org


Jane's Walk PHX 2015


Celebrate Jane Jacob's life and spirit of her work as well as the history and culture of downtown Phoenix during Jane's Walk PHX 2015. Jacob's was an American-Canadian journalist known for her influence and work with urban studies. The walk through downtown's alleys and plazas to showcase Phoenix's history will start at the east block of CityScape, 1 East Washington Street, at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday, May 14. The Yard Sale with Local First AZ


Get ready to peruse some of the Valley's unique offerings in the aptly named Yard Sale at The Yard, 5632 North Seventh Street, starting at 10 a.m. on Saturday, May 16, and at 3 p.m. on Sunday, May 17. Partnering with Local First AZ, eight local businesses, including Brand X, Frances, and Zia Records, will be selling their goods. Live music and yard games will entertain.
