In what may be the Valley's most anticipated new restaurant, The Clever Koi, a modern Asian food and drink establishment, has announced a tentative opening date of Tuesday, November 19.

From former Parlor Pizzeria chefs Jared Porter and Joseph Absolor, along with co-owners Joshua James (beverage director) and Nicholas Campisano (general manager), who also did time at the pizzeria, The Clever Koi will be located in a remodeled building at 4236 North Central Avenue (next to George & Dragon).

Here's what diners can expect.

With a modern take on traditional Asian foods, The Clever Koi will feature seasonal and locally focused dishes including steamed buns, housemade dumplings, and progressive noodle dishes reflecting regions such as Thailand, Korea, China, Vietnam, Japan, and Indo-China.

"We wanted to do something innovative and provide something that was not currently represented in our community," says Porter. "My philosophy is to elevate food, not tamper with high quality ingredients and flavor combinations."

The beverage program, led by James, will feature feature craft cocktails on tap, housemade shrubs, imported beers, and sakes.

"If you would have asked me four years ago if I would be right here, right now, opening up a creative concept of my own in Phoenix, I would have laughed at you in disbelief," says Absolor. "I am humbled and grateful."
