16. Pig Face Dumplings at The Clever Koi 

The menu at midtown's The Clever Koi changes fairly often. But through all the menu re-writes, small and large, the chefs at the modern Asian restaurant haven't dared touch the Pig Face Dumplings. It's not hard to understand why. From the outset, this small plate has been one of the restaurant's most popular — which is quite surprising when you consider that the name features the words "pig" and "face." Not exactly sexy. 

But the simplicity of this dish is what gives it such wide appeal. To make it, the chefs stuff handmade dumplings with moist, pig meat, sourced mainly from the animal's, well, face. Anyone who's familiar with offal knows the face is where you'll often find the most tender and flavorful meat, so it make sense that each bite of Pig Face Dumplings delivers a mouthful of rich, meaty, salty pork. Topped with housemade kimchee and housemade Sriracha with a garnish of curly green onion for a kick of brightness (both visually and for taste), a serving of these dumplings is almost too easy to inhale on your own.
