True Music Festival's lineup-opening one-two-three punch of Bassnectar, The Flaming Lips, and Wiz Khalifa got a wide swath of Valley music fans talking when they were announced back in August. Now Kill Paris and Hellogoodbye have joined the bill in a second wave of touring acts.
An updated look at the lineup follows below.
That first set of acts--Capital Cities and Lord Huron were announced with The Flaming Lips et al--continues to set the tone for the show itself, which seems determined to be all things to all people and might actually pull it off.
Hellogoodbye might bring back some memories if you haven't heard the name since you bought Zombies! Aliens! Vampires! Dinosaurs! and regularly expected new updates on Homestar Runner. It may seem strange that they missed the cute-tumblrfication of pop culture that they anticipated, but four years in record label hell meant that their follow-up, the considerably more sedate Would It Kill You?, didn't come out until 2010.
Their third album, Everything is Debatable, came out today.
Kill Paris is an EDM blog staple most recently of this remix to the Ghostbusters theme, because hey, why not?
See the rest of the lineup on Page 2.
Bassnectar Flaming Lips Wiz Khalifa Capital Cities Lord Huron Griz: Another young producer at what's shaping up to be a dance-heavy show. Kill Paris Hellogoodbye He's My Brother She's My Sister: Comma-averse, surprisingly bombastic folk-pop from LA. Kopecky Family Band: Not-actually-related band of Nashville indie-rockers. You may be noticing a theme here--equal parts acoustic-guitar-pop and EDM, add hip hop to taste. Black Carl: Local soul heroes just back from a wide-ranging west coast tour of their own. Chevy Woods: A little more Pittsburgh hip hop from a Wiz Khalifa associate. Berner: Another member of Khalifa's Taylor Gang Records. Dry River Yacht Club: Un-pigeonholeable Valley veterans who recently served as EDM palate-cleansers at another show, Flagstaff's Kaleidoscope Kamp Out. Black Bottom Lighters: Hard-working Glendale reggae-rockers in the middle of recording their first LP. The Black Moods: "High energy rock and roll" from Tempe with a classic-rock bent.
True Music Festival is scheduled for Saturday, December 14 at Salt River Fields in Scottsdale.
