5 Must-See Movies in Metro Phoenix This November

In this month of giving thanks, let's take a moment and appreciate the movies that make us smile, make us cry, make us cheer, and make us laugh. If you'll be traveling to see family or hosting them, there's plenty to see this month that likely won't even cause an argument at the dinner table (score!). The Peanuts Movie
Opens Friday, November 6
Of all the Charlie Browns in the world, Snoopy's beloved owner is, of course, the Charlie Browniest. Sure, it's animated and technically a kids' movie, but isn't there just something wonderfully nostalgic about Charlie Brown, Linus, Lucy, Snoopy and the gang that makes the you just want to smile? By staying true to the original comic's style and quirkiness, it's a breath of fresh air in a season of heavy dramas and other grown-up fare. 

The Jerk
Playing Tuesday, November 10 at various Harkins Theatres
When Steve Martin opens a film with the line "I was born a poor, black child," you have to know you're in for a unique experience. The Harkins Tuesday Night Classics series is paying tribute to Martin this month, and if you've never seen this one, it's time to cross it off your classic comedy bucket list. See if you can spot how many contemporary comedies it inspired. 

The 33
Opens Friday, November 13
Remember when 33 Chilean miners were trapped back in 2010 and the whole world watched the rescue effort with bated breath? Trust us when we say you don't remember it nearly as well as you think you do. Regardless, this in-depth look at the whole story is truly incredible and it doesn't even matter if you remember how it all worked out. Antonio Banderas is better than ever as the unofficial leader of the 33 men who must overcome every miner's worst nightmare when they become trapped 2,200 feet below the Earth's surface. It's a great film about brotherhood, ingenuity, and the triumph of the human spirit even in the darkest of circumstances. 

The Hunger Games: Mockingjay, Part II
Opens Friday, November 20
If you've read the books, you know how this ends, and if you're anything like us, you'll see this one with fingers crossed that they changed the ending. They probably didn't, but we can dream, right? It's a series that has done such a good job of bringing the books to the screen and the last installment should be pretty action-packed, what with the whole war against the Capital in full swing by the time this movie kicks off. It is also Philip Seymour Hoffman's final theatrical release.

The Good Dinosaur
Opens Wednesday, November 25
Two kids' movies on one list? Yes, and sorry, but we're not sorry. Pixar movies are just too good to be simply written off as something that only parents and kids can enjoy. This movie takes a look at what might have happened if the asteroid that wiped out the dinosaurs had missed Earth and just kept on going. Apparently, a kid and dinosaur would become friends and embark on an epic adventure (who knew?). With a Thanksgiving opening, it might just be the perfect film to help you digest that second helping of pumpkin pie.
