Here at the ranch we live, eat, breathe and, well, you know what cultural events.
The weekend starts tonight. And after reading this blog post, you'll be ready for it.
Arte Latino en la Ciudad Opening Reception at Phoenix Center for the Arts
We took one look at the work, The Guardian, by Julio Rodarte (above) and kinda freaked out...in a good way. This piece, along with other works in the group show, can be seen tonight, Friday, May 7, at the exhibition's opening reception from 6 to 8 p.m. Click here for location details.
The Duce Grand Opening Weekend at 525 South Central Avenue
Yes,
yes, it's finally here! The Duce has been so highly anticipated, we
gave it a Best of Phoenix Award before it even opened. That
is some serious cultural capital, folks. The 15,000 square foot space
will feature a restaurant, full bar, old-timey soda fountain, coffee bar, organic produce stand, and retro clothing and collectibles. The
opening runs Saturday, May 8, 6 to 11 p.m. and Sunday, May 9, 11 a.m. to
7 p.m. Click here for the whole story and here for our slideshow.
Scorpius Dance Theatre's Catwalk at
Phoenix Theatre's Little Theatre
Word around the campfire is, this production is smokin' hot rockin'. It's an interdisciplinary
mash-up with dance choreography, original fashion designs, video
montages, and live music. Click here for performance times and location details.
Spring Puppet Slam at the Great Arizona Puppet Theater
We've
watched the puppet shows for kids at the Great Arizona Puppet Theater
and we've watched Avenue Q clips on the Web. We love them both. We're
thinking this adult-themed production may land somewhere in between
the two. Click here for more info and location details.
Celebrate Living Well: Mother's Day Celebration at McCormick
Ranch Golf Club
Here's our recommendation for a wholesome
activity with Mom (that isn't a predictable brunch at a fancy
restaurant). This little festival features yummy food booths, live
music, jewelry for sale, art, prizes, and skincare demonstrations with
Forever Living products. All proceeds go to Doves program for
victims of elderly abuse. The fest runs Saturday from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.
