If your host or hostess game includes making drinks that are one part bottom-shelf vodka, one part Refreshe seltzer water, or simply handing someone a beer, then it may be time to up your game. Luckily, Summer Cocktail Camp is hitting seven metro Phoenix mixologists at their home turfs starting July 17, offering two-hour classes on how to make the best craft cocktails in town.
The third annual Summer Cocktail Camp will go down every Sunday from 1 to 3 p.m. until August 28 and will be held at seven different bars and restaurants around town. Participants will grab tickets, find a seat at places including Jade Bar or the Clever Koi, and partake in a cocktail-making class featuring never-before-revealed cocktail recipes. Then, it’s bottoms up.
Classes kick off with Brandon Casey at The Ostrich, followed by Michael Allmandinger at Barrio Urbano, and Brian Goodwin at The Gladly. We start off August with Joshua James at The Clever Koi, then Travis Nass at Christopher's + Crush, Eddie Garcia at Jade Bar, and end at Virtu with Fernando Bambaren and Jeremy Key.
Summer Cocktail Camp is a collaboration between Awe Collective and Phoenix Magazine. Classes will include appearances from cocktail writer and New Times contributor Shelby Moore and Phoenix Magazine editor Craig Outhier.
Seats for the 2016 Summer Cocktail Camp are first come, first serve, per class, as last year's events sold out. Attendees may pick and choose which Sunday class they’d like to attend – though that doesn’t mean you can’t do all seven – starting at $38 for one class. Ticket prices include the two-hour class, three or four cocktails, and a parting gift.
