For years, Kitchen Switchin' in north Central Phoenix was a go-to place to discover gently used kitchenware treasures at deep discounts. And that's still the case -- sort of.

The shop closed recently, but as of this month, it's back under a new name and new owners, Terri Mainwaring and Linda Klein. The pair gave the space -- located in a renovated home on Seventh Street north of Glendale Avenue -- a fresh new look and launched under the name The Classy Kitchen.

Mainwaring and Klein have a few new ideas for the concept of a kitchen consignment store. Within the next few weeks, they hope to launch a series of The Classy Kitchen Cooking Classes that will cover topics such as tablescaping, kitchen renovation, and gluten-free cooking. They plan to bring in experts to lead the classes in the in-store kitchen and are open to customizing classes for groups of 10 to 12 people.

Klein says they also wanted to focus on making the store a more cozy place that feels welcoming and warm, unlike a typical thrift store. She says they're also focusing on accepting truly high-quality gently used products with "a couple of years left in them." That means items with few or no chips in them.

On the day we stopped in, we found everything from full sets of dishware to small appliances at seriously affordable prices. A coffee-bean grinder for $8 is less than half the retail price, while a new-looking slow cooker could set you back just $50.

The Classy Kitchen is looking to consign everything from small appliances to tabletop décor. They also consign dishes, china, crystal, glassware, barware, cooking and bakeware, serving items, and other kitchen gadgets. Everything consigns at a 60/40 rate.
