Can you believe it's been 10 years since Sprinkles Cupcakes first opened its doors and turned a simple baked good into an enduring food and pop culture phenomenon? Yeah, neither can we. And as they say, if you can't beat 'em, join 'em, so why not just celebrate The Decade of The Cupcake with a free treat. From 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. today Sprinkles Cupcakes in Scottsdale is giving away a free cupcake to every customer. Southern Rail and Changing Hands Bookstore Tuesday, April 14

"I put a lot of pressure on chefs to take local to another level," James Beard Award-winning chef Dan Barber told New Times last week. The chef, who's been named one of Time Magazine's Most Influential People in the World, is simultaneously one of the farm-to-table movement's biggest supporters and harshest critics. In his book The Third Plate, Barber challenges readers to push for a truly sustainable food system that supports both the environment and delicious food. Tomorrow he'll be at Southern Rail and Changing Hands Bookstore in Phoenix for a dinner, book talk, and book signing event. The dinner, for which reservations are required, costs $79 per person, while admission to the talk comes free with the purchase of The Third Plate.
